This is made of excellent thickness bamboo reed tha thas been seasoned and roasted to ensure long life. The holes are inidividually tuned and cut out in a specific shape by hand. One end of the reed is blocked with baked clay. Each flute is painstakingly handmade. The wood quality is absolutely fantastic in these instruments - these are not to be confused with the flimsy and overly fragile Cinchor North Indian "bamboo" rubbish with their reedy and shrill acoustics.

This is a transverse flute, much like the Western silver flute, and its is played by sliding fingershafts over the holes, covering them either fully or half. The standard quality of the Indian bansuris produce a quite beautiful sound, but their tuning is often not exactly to the western standard notes. It can happen that they sometimes sound slightly out of tune to the western ear.
